CBT Counselling and Psychotherapy in Edinburgh and Online

Working Together

Taking the first step towards seeking counselling can be daunting, but please know that you are not alone. I am here to support you on your journey to better mental health and well-being. The next step is to reach out and contact me. Together, we can discuss your needs and determine how I can best help you.

Initial Consultation

To begin, I offer a short 15-minute phone call or video call consultation. During this time, we'll discuss what brings you to counselling and how I can support you. This is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit to work together. There is no obligation to continue with therapy after this initial consultation.

First Session

The first session is an assessment session where I will take the time to understand your current situation, feelings, and experiences. This will allow me to create a personalised therapeutic plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. During this session, we'll delve deeper into your challenges and explore how therapy can help you navigate them.

My Approach

I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as my main approach to providing support for my clients.

CBT helps you learn more helpful ways of thinking and reacting in everyday situations. By changing the way you think and what you do, you can begin to feel better.

Unlike some other talking therapies, CBT focuses on your current challenges rather than on your past experiences. It aims to improve your state of mind by teaching you to spot the links between your thoughts, actions, and feelings. This approach empowers you to take control of your thoughts and reactions, leading to positive changes in your life.

In our sessions, you will work closely with me to identify new ways of dealing with problems and set achievable goals for what you want to change. Through this collaborative process, you'll gain valuable tools and strategies to manage your mental health and improve your overall well-being.

CBT can be incredibly successful in helping you feel more in control of your life. By focusing on the present and learning to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours, you can experience lasting improvements in your mental health and quality of life.

Throughout our work together, I will provide a supportive, non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. We'll celebrate your progress and work through any setbacks together, ensuring that you have the support and guidance you need to achieve your goals and lead a happier, more fulfilling life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does counselling usually last?

The duration of counselling varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people may find relief after a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support. This can be discussed with your therapist during the initial consultation.

Is everything I say in counselling confidential?

Yes, everything you share in counselling is kept strictly confidential, with a few rare exceptions. These exceptions include if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. Your therapist will discuss the limits of confidentiality with you during your first session.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you are struggling with emotional difficulties, feeling overwhelmed, or facing challenges that are impacting your daily life, counselling can be a valuable tool for support and growth. If you are unsure, you can always reach out to a therapist for an initial consultation to discuss your needs and concerns.

Can I do counselling sessions online?

Yes, many therapists, including myself, offer online counselling sessions via video call. This can be a convenient and effective option for those who prefer the comfort of their own home or have difficulty attending in-person sessions due to location or scheduling constraints.

How often should I attend counselling sessions?

The frequency of counselling sessions can vary depending on your individual needs and circumstances. Typically, sessions are scheduled once a week, especially in the beginning, to establish a strong therapeutic relationship and maintain momentum in your progress. However, this can be adjusted to bi-weekly or monthly sessions as you progress in your therapy journey.
